Can I upload a recording from another platform?

Updated yesterday

Ovida records conversations using a proprietary method designed to deliver the highest possible accuracy in both audio and video. This level of precision isn’t possible with recordings made on platforms like Zoom or Teams, which is why we recommend holding your sessions in Ovida’s bespoke video rooms.

Using Zoom recordings with Ovida

We do have the option to analyse uploaded recordings from Zoom. But, this is Enterpise and cloud API only.

At this time, Ovida does not offer a direct Zoom integration. This solution is suitable if:

  • You have your Zoom cloud recordings correctly configured (e.g., with split audio).

  • You have a development team that can write the scripts needed to automate the upload to Ovida’s API.

Please note: This option is not available for clients without a developer or IT resource to set up the required API calls.

Why we recommend Ovida video rooms first

While the API option exists, there are strong reasons to use Ovida’s own recording environment whenever possible:

1. Privacy and GDPR compliance concerns

We do not believe that software platforms can reliably comply with GDPR for uploaded videos. GDPR demands that people whose data is being processed give fully informed consent and have the right to have that data deleted.

On the consent issue, if video of a coaching conversation is uploaded to an online platform like Otter.ai by a coach, the platform has no reliable method of establishing if the client's informed consent has been obtained if a video is uploaded to the site.

On the right to delete data issue, software platforms have no reliable mechanism to connect an actual human to a client in an uploaded video, so they cannot comply with GDPR for uploaded videos. Ovida manages GDPR compliance for users by ensuring that both parties are users of Ovida, accept the data processing agreement, and can easily manage and delete their personal data. This is made possible by all videos being recorded and managed exclusively on our site.

We are especially mindful of the risks of data breaches at third-party services like Otter.ai, given the sensitivity of the conversations and the likelihood that clients have not provided fully informed consent.

2. Data quality and analytics

The analytics we do require hyper-accurate transcripts, and these can only be generated off of the specifically high quality recordings we generate on Ovida video rooms. The quality of the video recordings generated by generic commercial video platforms like Zoom and Teams is inadequate for the advanced analytics we do.

We do realise that this presents a barrier to uptake, but are confident that the benefits of having GDPR issues managed for you, and the benefits of hyper-accurate transcripts and advanced analytics, is worth it!
